Mentoring
Have you ever thought that:
You know you have what it takes to be an outstanding leader in your job, your organisation and your field but you’re not sure how to get there?
You want to manage complex dynamics and relationships at work in a more confident way?
You’d like to know how you can develop within a role or an organisation without feeling like you’re stuck in a rut?
You’re managing large teams and lots of people and your time is being squeezed just a bit too much?
You are planning for the next step but finding it tricky to navigate work and personal choices?
You would like to work in a specific sector or for a specific organisation but can’t seem to get your foot in the door?
You want to speak up but you feel the butterflies in your stomach and your face start to flush before you do?
You feel the need to stop, breathe, reflect, take stock and calmly plan to proceed in a more effective way?
I mentor people working hard to make a positive difference in the world, usually in the charity and public sectors working across a range of levels and roles. I’ve seen the impact that a lack of confidence, an unsupportive manager, or an organisation going through change can have on a person and I have navigated different career challenges myself- this work is really important to me and I know the difference that a good mentor can make.
I blend coaching and mentoring styles (depending on your preference) and will find a balance of constructive challenge, empathetic support and practical ideas that works for you. I’m really proud that my mentees say how much they enjoy our sessions (see below) and my gentle humour too!
Example mentoring subjects include:
leading an organisation or team
progression and your next step, including moving into different sectors and organisations
people and performance management
managing wellbeing and stress at work, including in challenging situations and contexts
development within or beyond a role
developing confidence and assertiveness
building your profile
making the most of your job and you
managing challenging relationships and dynamics
general and ongoing career support and guidance
I offer mentoring in person, by video call or by phone. If you’d like to find out more or have a free initial chat, get in touch-I’d love to hear from you.
Testimonials:
“Madeleine was a fantastic mentor to work with. She brings a great amount of experience working in the charity sector and a warm, friendly and engaging approach to working together. Madeleine really inspired me to focus on my personal development goals and be brave about taking steps to move my career forward. I would particularly recommend Madeleine for anyone who has changed careers and is wondering how best to put forward your transferrable skills and experience in terms of CV and applications. Working with Madeleine empowered me to apply for and secure a new role. I would highly recommend Madeleine.”
— Community Leadership Campaigner, Time To Change
“As a mentor Madeleine was the right balance of supportive and challenging, guiding me effectively through a fairly big career change from academia to the charity sector. Her practical guidance and support helped me see how my skills fit into my new career and built my knowledge and confidence in the sector. I recommend Madeleine wholeheartedly.”
— Head of Epic Youth Policy, The Martin James Foundation
“Across our time together, Madeleine created a great space (remotely) where I felt instantly comfortable to be really open. She was really helpful in guiding me to think differently about how I approach my work, my experience and what I can do to keep learning and adapting. In a relatively short timeframe, she facilitated a big transition period and it was incredibly useful having her insight of my current context but also the distance and experience of elsewhere too – so thank you!”
- Senior Officer, Mental Health and Productivity Pilot, Mind
“Madeleine has been a fantastic mentor to me. She has a great approach, sharing her experiences where relevant but also asking me good questions to help me talk through the issue. She is very flexible and can adapt her style depending on whether you'd prefer to be coached or mentored. She has great suggestions which I haven’t considered before and has had a varied career, so it is helpful to hear her experiences. Her excellent support empowered me to make a move into a new role. I would definitely recommend being mentored by Madeleine.”
